One of our goals was accomplished this year: Capture Union Pacific 1995,
the Chicago & North Western Heritage Unit, which happened on Sunday,
May 13, 2018. Seventeen days later, we accomplished another goal:
Capture Union Pacific 1943. Andrew Mangalindan and Branden Phillips
headed out to the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision where Union Pacific
SD70AH 1943 “Spirit of Union Pacific” was going to be on a UP Business Train,
heading east towards New Jersey. Since 1943 was recently installed with NS
cab controls and signals, it wasn’t able to lead. It did happen to leave after a
crew change in Union Pacific’s Proviso Yard. But due to schedule conflict,
we were unable to catch the train again. But overall, we’re satisfied with our
catch of UP 1943 and we hope to see it again soon. Luckily the rain was held
off until the afternoon. While we were waiting for UP 1943, we filmed the
morning rush hour and caught a couple UP freight trains before it showed up.
As we wrap up our busy month, we had the ability of capturing at least one UP
Heritage Unit (UP 1982, UP 1983, UP 1995), one NS Heritage Unit (NS 1074),
and one Amtrak Heritage Unit (Amtrak 130). Another fantastic day on the Union
Pacific Geneva Subdivision.
