Lake Forest Railfanning: Christmas Edition

Lake Forest Railfanning: Christmas Edition
Recorded 12/23/16

I made another return trip to Lake Forest station to celebrate the holiday season as well as a successful railfanning year. It was cold for our crew so we didn’t stay as long as we’re expected to. Plus, the crew had some last minute Christmas shopping to do. Highlight of the Day was a tough decision but after being a little patient throughout the day, one train stood out among the rest. So enjoy the show and have a Happy Holidays from all of us at A-Train4014 Productions!

Lake Forest Railfanning: Black Friday Edition

Lake Forest Railfanning: Black Friday Edition
Recorded 11/25/16

I was in town for the Thanksgiving holiday so I decided to make time for some railfanning. I returned to Lake Forest station with Jacob Brugioni on Black Friday since I didn’t want to deal with all of the shopping chaos. It was cold and windy. So windy in fact that when I first saw Amtrak 90221 Veterans Unit, my Amtrak hat that I usually wear when railfanning, blew off my head and briefly got caught underneath the 70+ MPH moving Amtrak Hiawatha. As a result, my Amtrak hat got sent to heaven since it was split in half. On the other hand, the day must go on. It was nice seeing a variety of Amtrak trains and Metra trains including freight trains.

Thank You "Smoke"

Recorded 11/20/16

Tony Stewart has lots of remarkable moments in racing. From winning his first Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2005 to the incredible championship battle in 2011 against Carl Edwards at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Tony Stewart says goodbye to NASCAR on November 20, 2016 as he races one more time before retirement as an Owner/Driver. Before retirement, “Smoke” ended up with a back injury that sidelined him for the first part of the NASCAR season. After a thrilling winning at Sonoma in June, Tony Stewart was able to make it to the Chase. Unfortunately, he does not make it to the Championship 4 to compete for a fourth championship. On behalf of everyone at A-Train4014 Productions, we would like to wish 3-Time NASCAR champion, Tony Stewart for a remarkable racing career and to enjoy retirement. The racing world would be completely different without Tony Stewart in the driver’s seat.

Great Train Show

Great Train Show
Recorded 11/19/16

I returned home on the weekend of 11/19-11/20 to be part in the Great Train Show held at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, IL. I had a great time with my buddy, Branden Phillips. I hit the jackpot this time by purchasing two N Scale locomotives: Santa Fe C44-9W 640 Red Warbonnet and Pere Marquette 1225 including two Tony Stewart collectables.

Steam in the Valley

Steam in the Valley
Recorded 9/25/16

I’m about to turn 20 years old on Monday, September 26 and I needed to find some way to celebrate big. After some long debating, I found the answer. I’m making my return to railfanning since my birthday was coming up. So my mom and I went to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad where the Nickel Plate Road 765 is now Nickel Plate Road 767 will be doing an excursion. Before the trip, I was working extremely hard to work stay ahead of the game in college so I don't have to worry about any necessary schoolwork. Earlier this year, the production crew and I chased the Nickel Plate Road 765 when it was doing The Varsity in the Chicago area and I find it ironic that I have an opportunity to ride behind the Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive. Last month during Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society’s Open House event, NKP 765 was renumbered to NKP 767 and a mars light was an added feature to the locomotive to honor the locomotive’s history. Almost one year ago, I was railfanning in Lake Forest for my birthday and now this is one step bigger which makes this more exciting. The last time I rode behind a steam locomotive was at the Strasburg Railroad over ten years ago. The ride was wonderful. I loved the wonderful forest scenery around my seat in coach number three. I get to witness my first photo runby which was so cool. Overall, I’d totally do this trip again. Thank you to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for making this event possible. It was definitely a nice birthday present.

SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT

"I'm excited to announce that I will be making my return to railfanning this weekend since my birthday is coming up. I wanted to do something big and special when I turn 20 years old so after some debating, what better way to ride behind Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society's Nickel Plate Road 767 in Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad as part of the Steam in the Valley event. All things considered, I find it to be ironic considering that I originally chased the Nickel Plate Road locomotive when it ran The Varsity back in June of this year. It's so cool that I get to ride behind the 767 because it's been a while since I rode behind an operating steam locomotive in over ten years. Overall, its so cool to see the Nickel Plate steam locomotive twice this year and I was able to both chase it and ride it. I'm looking forward to my early birthday present thanks to my mom."

Today, A-Train4014 Productions joins Andrew Sonkin at Lake Forest train station for some more railfanning. Yes, I’m still not ready to say goodbye to my home away from home. But it was still a fun day to watch trains once more at Lake Forest. Highlight of the Day was once again tough decision but it’s back to one moment that stood out among the rest.

Lake Forest Railfanning

Lake Forest Railfanning
Recorded 8/14/16

After a fun filled day at the Illinois Railway Museum, I went all the way to Lake Forest due to running some errands and I decided to make stop and railfan for an hour. Kind of wasn’t anticipating railfanning at Lake Forest even though I saw lots of train equipment at the Illinois Railway Museum but luckily, I still had enough energy and patience to drive down there. Even though it wasn’t much, it was still nice to see some trains at Lake Forest before college.
